UAE - Fujairah

Photo Stories : Beaches and Date Fruits in Khorfakkan, Fujairah

June 09, 2017

The hot weather does not stop us to go on long drives. And often times, we arrive to unexpected treats.

Our summer drive to Fujairah this year treated us to wonderful communion with the sea breeze and to beautiful sights of date trees.

We are sharing you some of photos of our drive here:

It's date fruits season!

Offroad Drive from Fujairah to Oman's Madha Inclave

April 20, 2017

As we had our aunt visiting the UAE, we chose to take charge in driving her to see the other wonders of the country which are not otherwise usually shown in videos. For her next route, we decided to bring her to Fujairah.

We are not good at following planned routes unless we have a definite goal on a specific place, and we would always  just like yesterday when we decided to bring Auntie to see Fujairah. The thought of cutting through the mountain came to our minds. Fortunately we found our way to Oman's inclave within UAE in Madha, however our route was stopped when we reached the path that was washed deep with the recent rains, risky to force the car to pass. We turned back to the highway, yet happy we had good snaps of the mountain that had vibrant colors wonderfully kissed by the sun.

Masafi community in Ras Al Khaimah nestled between rock mountains

April 20, 2017

My cousin's mom is currently in Dubai on visit. As she is surrounded with a concrete jungle of tall buildings and multiple-laned roads, we thought of showing her the other face of the UAE -- that of the mountains, hence we headed to Fujairah. I've earlier posted regarding the Madha part of the drive here but prior to bringing her to see inside the mountains, we brought her to see a community nestled within the mountains in Masafi. If you are in the UAE and sees the Masafi brand of drinking water and juices, these are produced in this community.

In the past, we would enter the Masafi community to do a long drive towards Dibba and Khorfakkan. From Masafi, it is along drive over rock mountains towards a wonderful coastal view. Even the oldest mosque of Bidya is along the way. However though, we havent done this route in this trip. Hopefully we get to share that experience next.

Masafi can be reached along E88. From the Friday Market as soon you reach the round about, take the 3rd exit towards Masafi-Dibba road.

Masafi is part of Ras Al Khaimah.

Here is a video of our quick drive to Masafi

Back to Hajar Mountains

October 08, 2014

We've been on the roads and Fujairah's mountains again over the Eid break. We were moving with our phone's google maps, and it was pretty exciting seeing that  we were driving between two Emirates within minutes because of the inclaves and exclaves.

The tracks have since been developed since we last passed them, making it faster to move around. However we were blocked twice to our destinations because of the ongoing construction and development.

We looked for the scenic spots for some photos and here's some BTS shots.

It was still quite warm even around nightfall as dragon flies came near to greet us. :-)

Dubai - New Fujairah Road Route

December 17, 2011

This blog had a sudden surge in hits from searches on the new road to Fujairah through Maleha Road, and that gave us a cue where to head this weekend -- off for a lunch buffet at Fujairah Rotana with our 2011 Entertainer voucher before it expires end of this month.

We started through E11, or from Ittihad Road, but we thought this is a longer route after we came back to Dubai through the By Pass Road, which took considerably shorter time and avoiding the usual traffic at National Paints roundabout.

ROUTE TO THE NEW FUJAIRAH ROAD FROM DUBAI

  • Coming from the Deira Clock Tower, head towards Airport Road.
  • After the Rashidiya Metro Station, get straight up the bridge, then down to Emirates Road towards Sharjah.
  • As you approach the National Paints Bridge, take right, do not go up.
  • Taking right before National Paints Bridge and down before the roundabout, be careful not to go straight, but take the road to the right, signposted as Maleha Road.
  • Keep driving straight along Maleha Road for around 54 kilometers from the National Paints Roundabout before you need to get up the interchange to take you on the new road .  Here are some guides to spot the interchange, aside from the sign posts: Soon as you see the first hills/ mountains, you'd see a petrol station,  the Maleha Interchange, then Maleha Hospital.
  • From Maleha Hospital, stay on the right lane as you are approaching Exit 47. Take right at Exit 47, go up left through the interchange and voila! you're on for a smooth three-lane drive along Shaikh Khalifa Road - the new Fujairah road.
From Exit 47, it's 39 kilometers towards Fujairah's oblong roundabout. On a 100-130 kph speed, we clocked 23 minutes.

FUJAIRAH -  DUBAI

Going back to  Dubai,  we headed back to the oblong roundabout ( :-) the shape I guess makes it peculiar and the best way to identify for those who doesnt know its name (like me!)).  We took the exit to the "Dubai" signpost.
  • Get past the first intersection. You know you're not lost when you see the Fujairah City Center (still under construction as of this writing) at your right.
  • You approach a roundabout, then take left.
  •  From the roundabout, get right on the start of the Shaikh Khalifa highway.
  • After some 35 kilometers, you are now to take a right back on Maleha Road
On Maleha Road, you have the option to head straight to National Paints Roundabout, (which we don't recommend if going back to Dubai and you're avoiding traffic), or through By Pass Road. If deciding on the By Pass Road:
  • At Maleha Road, slow down and keep right soon as you see signs of Jebel Ali/ Abu Dhabi, and By Pass Road. Take right and up the interchange.
  • Now at the six-laned By Pass Road, you would see the Burj Khalifa on your right as you advance. You are now driving in parallel with Emirates Road.
  • Exiting to Deira, take right to the signpost of Al Khawaneej.
  • Keep driving straight until you reach the roundabout that points left to Deira.
  • You're led to take right then straight until you cross the interchange above Emirates Road. You're now on the Airport Road.

'Wadi Bashing' at Wadi Madha - Oman and UAE

August 03, 2011

Do you know that Oman (or I should say an Oman territory) is found inside the UAE, and that the UAE (or I should again say a UAE territory) is also found inside Oman?

These territories are good examples of 'exclaves'. An exclave is a territory legally or politically attached to another territory with which it is not physically contiguous.
Anything grey is UAE, green shade is Oman territory (Madha). Notice the UAE territory in the middle?

Smoother drive from Dubai to Fujairah through Sharjah Kalba Road

July 31, 2011

I always dreaded driving from Dubai to Fujairah via E88 (Al Dhaid Road) and E89 after the Masafi junction. halfway to Fujairah, the road is two-laned and car speeds are at contrasting 60 kph to 160 kph with 20-wheeler trucks lining the way all days except Friday. Going back to Dubai, keeping on the right lane could be annoying with the bumpy path cracked by the heavy lories. Staying on the left on the hand exposes you to tailgating and flickering lights of oncoming speeding cars.

Until we came to know the Sharjah- Kalba Road accessible through Emirates Road. From Dubai as you approach the National Paints bridge, do not go up the bridge, but straight down. Just before the roundabout below the bridge, turn right to Maleha Road. This is the start of a smooth drive to Fujairah. It is a plain ride for the next 70 kilometers before the mountains start showing up, which is about another 50 kilometers of downward easy, enjoyable bends along the mountainside.

UAE - Fujairah

How does Fujairah look like?

July 30, 2011

About this time seven years ago, I was googling for pictures/ images/ photos of Fujairah. I was awaiting my flight to the UAE then where I'll head straight to this city.

I can recall finding a single picture of Fujairah's image taken from space. I cannot zoom the picture so I remained curious why the mountains I see are all brown -- until I saw the rocky mountains after arriving here.

Bull Butting in Fujairah

July 30, 2011

We were on the road from Kalba to Fujairah yesterday when we noticed a crowd of spectators by the roadside. We pulled over to see a bull butting event going on.
A bullbutting match at the arena across the Fujairah corniche
Unlike the Spanish bull fighting which could be bloody, bull butting is only about two  bulls locking their horns against each other, and pushing their rival out of the inner arena. He who gets pushed longer loses.

Rough Drive: Wadi Wurrayah, Fujairah

December 03, 2010

Driving out of Dubai on weekends seems cheaper than being in malls. We just pack our cooked meals and load on gas, and that's it for the day.

Yesterday, we drove to Wadi Wurayyah in Fujairah, said to be UAE's only waterfalls all year long. From the road,  the wadi is a bumpy 3 kilometers rock bed which we clocked 26 minutes (one way).

If you are heading to the wadi, you can also get location ideas and further notes from Agnes' blog here, as with the map above.

Here's a quick video of our drive (shhh, mind not the voices =) ):

At the junction towards the view deck and the rock bed

Down the Wadi. Wadi (Arabic: واديwādī; also: Vadi) is the Arabic term traditionally referring to a valley. In some cases, it may refer to a dry riverbed that contains water only during times of heavy rain or simply an intermittent stream.

The waterfalls from the view point

There are bees and dragonflies

Now, the waterfalls. Just a short one but for a place where oases are rare, these are treasured.

Clear water upstream

The husband checks the reservoir

I'm in awe how the walls have formed.
This hill-y and rock sight is a delight for us who's always on  Dubai's plains.

On a side note, here are snaps along Khorfakkan heading to the wadi:

A jeepney with unfinished painting of the Philippine flag, it seems
Fujairah Trade Center where I first worked in the UAE, for an Egyptian who's into transporting Fujairah's crushed rocks to Kuwait and Dubai, among other places.

We were stuck in traffic heading back home in Khorfakkan as people celebrate UAE's 39th National Day on the streets.

Road Trip - Falaj Moalla -> Masafi -> Fujairah

November 16, 2010

Getting lost in a road trip could sometimes turn out good, even if it means reaching the destination seven hours rather than 1.5 hours on the shortest route. We found ourselves on the outskirts driving just at 60-80kph rather than the 100-120kph highway speed. There's so much to see and wonder on so we would slow down or stop on awesome views.

We started in Dubai from left towards Fujairah at the lower right. We took the red route going and returned home on the blue road.

Dubai - Falaj Al Moalla - Al Dhaid - Masafi - Dadna - Zubara - Al Bidiya - Khorfakkan - Fujairah

Here's some takes along the way:

This house must feel so secured sitting on rocks in Masafi, Ras Al Khaimah

This was our sight for hours, but we loved it along with the curvy two way roads
Looking at these creations caught my interest in geography

There's no fancy food courts on the road.
Either stock food in the car, buy corn and fruits from this vendor,
or eat at local restaurants which could be in the next 50 kms

Hungry after four hours drive, at last by 3:30 pm we found a perfect spot for our packed lunch

After a filling lunch, we let our tummy do good work while we wonder on the blue horizon

...while the Gremlin and his Dad worked on the sand.
Then here's Bidiya Mosque, believed to have been built in 1446 AD.
It's the smallest mosque I've seen so far.

As the sun was about to set, we reached our destination after seven real good hours. Small water swamps are a sight on the roads after the rain of ice earlier.

I asked the husband to drive in this house
that cradled my first sleep in the UAE -- in Fujairah.
And there's our Fujairah drive. Now I'm looking forward to the next road trip.
